2018 Season - Week 3

It’s Been A Long Time Coming

A massive collective cheer went up from football fans around the world (except for Ron and his fellow NY Jets fans last Thursday when the Cleveland Browns won their first game in 635 days (yes since Christmas Eve 2016!). In fact Browns fans are not used to winning, this was just their third win in the last 1,052 days (dating back to mid October 2015). Three BUMS who were very relieved to see Cleveland beat the Jets were Marcus, Mark and Chief as the next opponents up for Cleveland, the Oakland Raiders. Do you all remember the dazzling runs of Barry Sanders? Wayne will be pleased to let you know that on Sunday Night in the victory over the Patriots, Lions rookie Kerryon Johnson rushed for 101 yards. Once he got to that mark he didn’t carry the ball again for fear of losing 2 yards. Johnson was the first Detroit player to rush for 100 yards since Reggie Bush did so on 28th November 2013, 70 games ago, that’s the longest drought since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. California Nightmare The California Dreams have a big decision to make regarding their 2018-2019 franchise QB. On Sunday Jimmy Garoppolo tore his left ACL and the 49ers have put him on IR and out for the season. Recently two other owners faced the same dilemma with their new Franchise Player being placed on IR very early in the season. Both decided to keep him with very mixed results. In 2015 George kept Jamaal Charles and was relegated while last year Craig kept David Johnson and brilliantly went on to win the league. A key difference is they both cost $3m, Jimmy G. only cost Wayne $0.5m. Roll on Trading Day which is on Saturday 13th October at 7pm before week 6 games. That’s when we can all replace the walking wounded and the underperformers. Scoring Hall of Fame Congratulations to Andy H who scored 55 points this week and so makes the Scoring Hall of Fame for the 11th time, breaking a 3-way tie for fourth most visits with AP and Johnnie. The Perivale Pirates top scorer was QB Cam Newton with 18 points from 2 TD passes and 2 TD runs. The only player on the team not to score was Franchise Receiver Michael Thomas, despite the Saints scoring 43 in Atlanta. Predicting The Big Four Thanks to the 10 owners who have selected their three teams & NFL MVP for Craig’s fun little game. As well as league MVP, he wants you to select who is going to win the Superbowl, who they are going to beat and who will have the first pick in the 2018 Draft. This is the last shout for selections, to me by 10pm tomorrow (Thursday) so don’t miss out, vote now by return email! BUMS on Seats The Thursday game is a big NFC game (Vikings @ Rams) so we will be at HQ from 6pm on Friday to see it. We may be at Johnnie’s on Sunday (to be confirmed). It’s 7pm at Marcus’ on Monday to watch Pittsburgh host Baltimore from Sunday Night and Johnnie’s on Tuesday at 6:30pm to see Kansas City @ Denver on MNF.
