2018 Season - Week 12 (Cont)
Back In The Hall Again
Despite having only seven players contributing to his roster (see previous story) Chief’s climb away from the drop zone was helped by a 52 point week, his record setting 19th visit to the scoring Hall of Fame, while Marcus also scored 52. Marcus now ties Mark for the second most visits with 14 apiece. But for Phoenix Fire Warriors there is much more to play for than just visits to the Hall. Last week the Sofa Wreckers scored big following the record setting Rams/Chiefs game and had a lead of 51 points at the top of the Premiership. This week with both teams on a bye Johnnie had to wait until 12 minutes had gone in the Sunday Night game (that’s 88% through the playing weekend) before he finally got off the schnide. So while Johnnie scored just 6 points from his kicker, Marcus scored 52 points and so in one week the gap in the race for the Papas Fritas Trophy has diminished from 51 to just 5 points.
Great Passing Performances
With two of the new quarterbacking stars on a bye this week (Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff) two others put up stunning numbers with very different results. On Sunday Philip Rivers pinpoint passing set a new record for number of completions in a game as he started with 25 consecutive completions in the Chargers 45-10 rout of Arizona. Then on Monday Night Football Marcus Mariota started out 19 for 19 and ended the game 22 for 23 for 303 yards and 2 Tds but his Titans lost 34-17. Posting a completion record of over 90% on at least 20 passes and losing has only been done once since 1950, incredibly in week 2 this season when Derek Carr went 29 of 32 in a losing cause for Oakland against Denver.
