2017 Season - Week 5

Trading Day 1

11 owners (seven in person, two online & two by email) traded 27 players on Sunday (two trades less than Trading Day 1 last year). Thanks to Marcus for helping with the Google Sheets & Cheryl for the fine foods as always. If you realise you wanted to drop another player you will have to wait until Sunday November 19th for Trading Day 2 which happens before week 11. Several trades won’t take effect until this weekend as they involved players signed (three) or cut (two) from either New England or Tampa Bay who had already played on Thursday Night Football. Trading Day - What’s the point of that then? It’s always silly to judge owners trading success the day after the trade but it’s fun to take a little peek into who made the right move. As well as the 5 trades which involved Thursday players, four players were signed who were on a bye in week 5. Aaron saw a 24 point improvement as new Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker scored 18 points and his new receiver Zach “Everybody” Ertz scored a TD while the players he dropped did nothing. Congratulations also to Johnnie (+14), Alex (+12), Mark (+11) Daz (+6) and George (+4) who also all improved. Meantime Chief lost 6 points, by selecting a receiver who was on a bye week, a RB who didn’t score and a replacement Head Coach. He then watched as (previously 3-1) Detroit failed in their comeback against the Carolina, followed by the previously winless LA Chargers winning in New York. Doh! Most Popular/Unpopular teams Denver and Houston both had 3 players added into the BUMS rosters and Detroit two (both ineffectually by Chief – see above) while Cincinnati had 4 players cut (but one signed) and Indianapolis and LA Chargers lost two players each from BUMS rosters on Sunday. With a Bear being signed all 32 NFL teams are now represented on BUMS rosters, though Chicago tie with NY Jets and San Francisco with the least number of players on a BUMS roster (one). Carolina and New England are now the most popular NFL teams as each have seven players on BUMS rosters, while Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Oakland and Tampa Bay are represented by six players each. Cuts by draft round No matter which round you are selected in, you can still be cut. Three franchise players were cut, Johnnie & Mark cutting Cairo Santos & Allen Robinson who the Chiefs & Jaguars have put on IR while Daz cut unproductive Colt RB Matt Jones. Aaron, Alex and Chief cut their first rounders (Julio Jones, Andrew Luck, and Dalvin Cook respectively). We also lost four seconds and two third round picks. We lost two fourth round picks while round five saw the most casualties with eight players drafted in that round cut. There were five sixth rounders ditched as well. BUMS on Seats It’s time for the BUMS pilgrimage to Oakland as Aaron, Chief, Marcus and Mark are off to San Francisco next Friday to see the Raiders home game next Sunday against the LA Chargers and the following Thursday against Kansas City. Cheryl will then join Chief for a California Road Trip until November 1st, so newsletters may be out at differing times over the next three weeks.
