2017 Season - Week 1

Short-Handed BUMS

After Ron’s loss of his first round pick early in the season of his Papas Fritas defence (see below) the same has now hit current champion Craig. It’s been confirmed his new $3m franchise RB David Johnson will miss 2-3 months after wrist surgery. While Craig’s unlikely to cut Johnson a number of BUMS will be looking forward to Trading Day 1 as they are playing with seven players but for different reasons. As mentioned last week Daz saw Houston cut his kicker Nick Novak while there is still no confirmation how long Colts and Old England QB Andrew Luck will be out. On Sunday Mark saw his second year Franchise Receiver, Allen Robinson suffer a season ending ACL injury, so Mark may decide to cut him but will still need to pay him his contracted $0.5m for the rest of this year. Make a diary note for TD1 on October 8th before week 5 and also for November 19th which will be your other chance to tweak your team as Trading Day 2 will happen before the week 11 matchups. After that your only changes will be to any player placed on season ending IR by his NFL team. Remember if that is a franchise player you will need to keep paying him his 2017 salary so it may be wise to keep a little money spare after TD2. Our Favourite NFL Franchise There were no surprises amongst our most popular teams as they have all been in the Superbowl in the last two years. Like last year Carolina and New England had the most drafted (7 players apiece) along this year with Atlanta. For the second year running Chicago is the only team not represented on the BUMS rosters to start the season. Cleveland, Denver (surprisingly), NY Jets and San Fran had just one player chosen each. Ron’s Return? Having become the first new owner to win the Papas Fritas since Andy H back in 2007 two years ago, Ron would rather forget last season and the defence of his title. His first round pick Doug Martin was lost for half the season in week 2 and he finished tied with Wayne for the final relegation spot. In the end it took victory in the tie-breaker (he outscored Wayne 39-38 in the Wildcard round) for Ron to remain in the Big League. However this season has started really well for him as he posted 47 points in Week 1. BUMS on Seats Due to work and visitors we will not be meeting on Friday to see week two’s Thursday Night Houston @ Cincinnati game. As Chief is working Johnnie will be hosting on Sunday evening as New Orleans face New England followed by Dallas @ Denver. We will be back at Johnnie’s on Monday evening to see the Sunday Night match up as Green Bay travel to Atlanta and then at HQ on Tuesday evening to see NY Giants host Detroit on MNF. As always all are welcome, let us know if you are coming for catering purposes!
