2017 Season - Week 15
Big Week BUMS
Congratulations to all members of the BUMS as in week 15 we scored a collective 511 points. That’s an average of 31.95 points per owner, the 11th highest average since we started 341 NFL regular season weeks ago! As mentioned our collective score was based around Aaron’s 53 point 8th visit to the scoring hall of fame but Cheryl and Johnnie both scored in the 40’s as well. 511 points is the sixth highest weekly total ever.
Botten’s Rookie Teams
John recently ask me the question, could a team made up of purely rookies ever win the BUMs. As you know rookies usually cost only $1m or $0.5 so there are no concerns over salary cap. It has actually happened in both of the last two years. Craig won last year with 557 points but if you had no franchise player you could have drafted these 8 rookies and scored 616 points. HC Ben McAdoo (where is he now) 66 points, K Will Lutz (133), QB Dak Prescott (105), RBs Ezekiel Elliott (96) and Jordan Howard (42) and receivers Tyreek Hill (72), Michael Thomas (54) and Sterling Shepard (42). The year before that Ron won the Papas with 514 points but you’d have beaten him by six if you drafted Todd Bowles (60), Josh Lambo (106), Jameis Winston (102), David Johnson (78), Todd Gurley (60), Tyler Lockett (48), Amari Cooper (36) and Devin Funchess (30). It has happened one other time in our 22 year history. Way back in 1998 but history may put this group down as one of the finest rookie classes as it contains both Peyton Manning and Randy Moss. David S won the Premiership in 1998 with 517 points but you could have totalled 578 if you drafted these 8 rookies:- Chan Gailey (60), Wade Richey (103), Peyton Manning (75), Fred Taylor (102), Robert Edwards (72), Randy Moss (106), Cam Cleeland (36) and Stephen Alexander (24).
BUMS on Seats
Xmas gets in the way of the NFL this week with two games on Saturday night, Colts (3-11) at Ravens (8-6) followed by Vikings (11-3) at Packers (7-7). We will watch this on Christmas Eve afternoon at HQ before the Sky double header. Matches yet to be announced. Then on Christmas Day Pittsburgh (11-3) travel to Houston (4-10) and Philadelphia (12-2) entertain Oakland (6-8). We will watch these on Boxing day afternoon. Let me know if you are coming over for catering purposes. It gets even worse for the final weekend of the BUMS as the NFL’s week 17 games will be played while we are all celebrating New Year’s Eve, so we will get together on New Year’s Day afternoon to watch them and see who wins the 2017 Papas Fritas Trophy along with who goes up and who goes down. So a big NO SPOILERS, for all these time shifted viewings. And finally I’d like to thank you all for reading the far out ramblings of a madman every week and participating in the greatest league in the world, and wish all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
