Draftermath 2017
Player Selection Meeting XXIII
With seven BUMS present at HQ and another six drafting online we had 13 team owners reacting to the picks taken before them. Special mention goes to Wayne who was drafting from a US airport. That meant only three owners had to supply a plan in advance, many thanks to those present for assisting the drafts for others. Hope you got who you wanted. And as always a huge thanks to Cheryl for the fine food she served before the draft.
The Experts Choice
This year the draft (attached) has been analysed by 8 NFL Fantasy Websites. This includes experts from CBS, ESPN and Yahoo Sports who have predicted how many points each player will score. Defending champion Craig has the best backfield in the BUMS with his new Franchise man David Johnson (95.1) and Melvin Gordon (59.7) totalling 154.8 points, over a third more than second placed Chief’s combination of LeSean McCoy (65) and FSU rookie Dalvin Cook (48.5). Mark is third with 112.4 points (1.1 less than Chief), courtesy of Le’Veon Bell (68.1) & rookie Joe Mixon (44.3). Andy H has the best receiving fleet with 167.3 pts from Jordy Nelson (69.3), franchise wide-out Michael Thomas (54.2) and Martavis Bryant (43.8). Second for a third consecutive year is Aaron (143.3) with Julio Jones (54.6), AJ Green (50.9) and Brandon Marshall (37.8) and third Mark totalling 142.1 points from Rob Gronkowski (58.6), franchise man Allen Robinson (45.2) and Terrelle Pryor (38.3). The experts predict Chief (564) will stop Craig from repeating by just 11 points, but Chief should come first because it’s these rankings he uses in his planning. Third will be Aaron on 499 points. The experts say George (457), Daz (447) and AP (443) will all be relegated. In the Conference they say Cheryl will lead with 505 points finishing 11 points ahead of Dave G with Alex getting promotion in his second year outscoring Wayne for the final promotion spot 458 to 444.
This Year Last Year
Looking at how this year’s teams shape up based on the 2016 scores, Craig will repeat with 578 points, comfortably ahead of Daz 534 and Chief 523. This scoring is affected by owners selecting players who missed considerable time last season such as George who picked Marshawn Lynch who didn’t play last year. It was so close lower down that if the experts had given Andy H 4 more points he would have finished 6th, but they didn’t and so he’ll finish 3 places lower and be relegated along with the Bowden Brothers, Mark beating Johnnie by 2 points. Their spots will be replaced by Dave G (529), Alex (504) and Cheryl (477). Rookies selected are given the score the experts think they’ll get but even though Wayne has selected three rookies this season it doesn’t help him as he is predicted to finish bottom of the Conference with 451 points as David Stamp misses out on promotion by 17 points. The experts like hindsight have been wrong often, so what is the point of Draftermath, I hear you cry? Well it’s a bit of pre-season fun & speculation isn’t it.
