Draftermath 2016
Welcome to Alex
As we start year 22 of the BUMS. It’s year 1 for the Old England Patriots as Alex takes over the franchise formally known as Weymouth Bay Bargaineers following John’s retirement. We welcome Alex who was one of nine BUMS present at HQ for the draft. With four other teams drafting live online we had 13 team owners reacting to the picks taken before them. That meant only three owners had to supply a plan in advance. Many thanks to those present for assisting the drafts for others. Hope you got who you wanted. And as always a huge thanks to Cheryl for the fine food she served before the draft.
The Experts Choice
This year the draft (attached) has been analysed by 7 NFL Fantasy Websites including experts from CBS, ESPN and NFL.com who have predicted how many points each player will score this year. Courtesy of Mike, George has the best backfield in the BUMS with Devonta Freeman (55.8) joining franchise man Jamaal Charles (66.6) so totalling 122.4 points, six more than Marcus’ combination of Ezekiel Elliott (60) and Eddie Lacy (56.4). Aaron is third with 105.6 points courtesy of Todd Gurley (61.8) & LeGarrette Blount (43.8). For the second consecutive year Wayne has the best receiving fleet with 157.2 pts from Rob Gronkowski (63), Julio Jones (54) and Julian Edelman (40.2). Tied for second are Aaron (he was also second last year), with Odell Beckham Jr. (66.6), Jordy Nelson (51) and Emmanuel Sanders (33.6) and Mark totalling 151.2 points each. Brandon Marshall (51) joining franchise men Allen Robinson (53.4) and Mike Evans (46.8) for Mark. The experts predict a Cooper lock-out of the top three spots in the Premiership with Chief scoring 530.1, Cheryl 514.6 and Aaron third with 510.2. Dave G will just stay up scoring 483.1 while Andy H (459.1), defending champion Ron (441.0) and Johnnie (437.2) will all be relegated. In the Conference they say George’s ground game will lead him to victory with 471.5 points courtesy of Mike’s selections. He’ll finish 9.9 points ahead of AP. Dad will beat Son for the final promotion spot as Daz is predicted to score 435.8 compared to rookie Alex’s 402.0. Stampy’s homage to John Botten and his team of $0.5m players will total 307.4 points.
This Year Last Year
Looking at how this year’s teams shape up based on the 2016 scores, Dave G will take the Premiership for the first time with 647 points, which would be the second highest total to win the Papas Fritas ever (Andy H 670 in 2007). Mark is due to score 566 with Cheryl third on 544. Last year’s scores have Aaron, Marcus and Johnnie being relegated but they all selected players who missed considerable time last season. Daz will win the Conference with 514 points, ahead of George with AP also going up. The Draftermath table shows what should happen… but will it? Last year the experts had Marcus winning the title but he finished fourth while the previous year’s scores intimated George would win but an early injury to $3m franchise RB Jamaal Charles scuppered that. So what is the point of the Draftermath, I hear you cry? Well it’s a bit of pre-season fun and speculation isn’t it.
