2015 Season - Week 8
Hall of Fame Times Two
Congratulations to Wayne who made the Scoring Hall of Fame this week putting up 52 points courtesy of 18 from Odell Beckham, 12 from Carson Palmer and 10 from Chandler Catanzaro . It’s Wayne’s 12th visit breaking a tie with Mark for second most Hall of Fame visits, but it’s his first visit since 2011 week 1, four and a half years ago.
It’s A Passing League Right Now
An Arena League game broke out in New Orleans as Drew Brees and Eli Manning put up basketball like numbers in the Saints 52-49 victory over the Giants. In 1969 Billy Kilmer (New Orleans) and Charlie Johnson (St Louis Cardinals) combined for 12 passing touchdowns but this week Brees and Manning set a new NFL record with 13. Drew Brees became the eighth QB to throw seven TD passes in a game, the last two to do that were Peyton Manning and Nick Foles back in 2013.
Big Name Injuries
Week 8 was a sad day for star players and non sadder than the injury to WR Steve Smith who tore his achilles. He’d already stated this was to be his final season and although there were rumours the Ravens front office was trying to persuade him to play again next year they are now set to put him on season ending IR, so that could be the end of the feisty ones NFL career. Also placed on IR was Le’Veon Bell who tore his MCL and so won’t play for Pittsburgh again this year. 49ers Reggie Bush damaged his knee when he slipped on the concrete around the outside of the Rams pitch tearing his MCL and ruling him out for the rest of the year, while Chargers wideout Keenan Allen (who had more catches through 7 games than anyone in NFL history last week), was placed on IR with a lacerated kidney. Aaron (Smith), Ron (Bell) and Chief (Allen) will all be looking for new talent on Trading Day 2 which is on Sunday November 15th.
BUMS on Seats
On Thursday Night Football it’s an AFC North clash as the unbeaten Bengals host the Browns but due to work we won’t be meeting to watch it. We are at HQ at 6pm on Sunday to see one-loss Green Bay @ unbeaten Carolina in a top of the NFC matchup followed by Peyton’s return as the unbeaten Broncos travel to the division leading (despite a 3-5 record) Indianapolis Colts. We will be at Johnnies at 7pm on Monday to see an NFC LEAst clash as Dallas entertain Philadelphia from Sunday Night. Finally we will be meeting at H’s on Tuesday night from 7pm for the first time this season as we test using Marcus’ NFL Game Pass to see Monday Night Football “condensed” style as H’s beloved Chicago Bears visit San Diego. As always all are welcome to every game.
