2015 Season - Week 7 Cont
Bargaineer’s Sale Away
It’s with much sadness that I have to announce that one of our long time owners is standing down at the end of the season. Not just a great character with his team of lowest paid players but a real contributor to the way the BUMS looks now. It was John who proposed splitting the league into the two divisions, so that everyone would have something to play for almost til the end of the season, whether it was winning the Papas Fritas, avoiding relegation or aiming for promotion. That kind of pushing the rules and the boundaries led to John being known as the Agent Provocateur, however as fantasy league has become a bigger and bigger business and with our ownership becoming more knowledgeable it has become more and more difficult for the Bargaineers to pick up the best bargains. Trading Day 1 was about picking up stars of the future but as John’s strategy is to not spend more than $4million, replacing his injured franchise kicker was not an option. The Bargaineers will be trying to avoid posting the lowest season score ever as they chase APs 1999 total of 241 points. With no kicker all season long that’s about a 100 point loss. He needs 173 points over the last ten weeks, ie three TDs per week. As the season progresses I’ll report on a variety of highlights from John’s 20 years in the BUMS. I’m pleased to announce a replacement has already been found as Daz’s son Alex has been saving all his pocket money to finance his take over of John’s franchise, having already helped his Dad with the live online draft back in August. Alex has yet to name his franchise (Weymouth Bay Bargaineers will be retired to BUMS history) but has been unofficially playing along with a team of undrafted players. He currently is outscoring his dad by 4 points, good enough for 7th in the Premiership.
