2014 Season - Week 7
Record Setters
With 3.09 left in the 2nd quarter Peyton Manning threw an 8 yard pass to Demaryuis Thomas. That was his 509th NFL touchdown pass and the most any one has ever thrown in the history of this great game we love. He passed Brett Favre’s record. Third is Dan Marino with 420. Meantime in Dallas, DeMarco Murray rushed for over 100 yards for the seventh straight game to start the season, surpassing the record of six to start the season held by Jim Brown from way back in 1958. He still has some way to go to beat the record of 14 consecutive 100 yard rushing games set by Barry Sanders from week 3 of the 1997 season.
Percy Harvin Traded to Jets
A shockwave trade happened on Friday as Seattle traded away its most dynamic playmaker (outside QB Russell Wilson) to the NY Jets for a conditional 4th to 6th round draft pick. This was so surprising that many features appeared online explaining “Why did the Seahawks trade Percy Harvin to the Jets”. It appears his enormous salary ($11m guaranteed this year - $41.5m over 4 years) and his Anger Management issues were key. In the locker room he’d had several physical altercations with team mates including one with Golden Tate prior to the Superbowl last season.
20th Anniversary - Team Ron and Team Wayne
Attached is the announcement of the ninth and tenth anniversary teams. Ron selected his coach Mike Singletary because of his “I want winners” press conference (which is exactly the spirit for making selections) and a special mention to LaDainian Tomlinson “there was that ludicrous 192 points that helped me win the Conference”. Ron also says he left out Tony Gonzalez as his “trio of WRs just looked too good”. Other skill players he left out included Marshawn Lynch, Antonio Gates, Isaac Bruce and Larry Fitzgerald. Nice to see Wayne recognising the roots of this organisation (remember the London Monarchs anyone) as he selected Kurt Warner (1998 Amsterdam Admirals) & Brian Finneran (1999 Barcelona Dragons) stating “Shout out to NFLEurope”. Skill players he left out include QBs Peyton Manning and another Barcelona Dragon Jon Kitna, RBs Chris Johnson and Emmitt Smith plus receivers Andre Johnson, Jimmy Smith, Marvin Harrison, Torry Holt & Terrell Owens.
BUMS on Seats
On Thursday Night Football it’s a top of the conference AFC clash as San Diego visit Denver on Sky. We are at HQ at 5pm on Sunday to see Ravens @ Bengals followed by Philadelphia @ Arizona. We will be back at HQ at 4pm on Monday for Green Bay @ New Orleans from Sunday Night but with Chief still recovering from his surgery we won’t be meeting on Tuesday to see the MNF game from the NFC East as Washington travel to Dallas.
