2014 Season - Week 5
Trading Day 1
9 owners traded just 17 players on Sunday (two less than Trading Day 1 last year). It seems many owners decided to stick with their drafted squad for now and will wait until Sunday November 9th for Trading Day 2 which happens before week 10. Two trades won’t take effect until next weekend as John cut Packer James Starks (for Carlos Hyde) and Chief signed Matt Asiata (to replace LeSean McCoy) as they had already played on Thursday night and so we already knew their week 5 score. Also a big thanks to Cheryl for the post Trading-Lasagne.
Trading Day - What’s the point of that then?
It’s always silly to judge owners trading success the day after the trade but it’s fun to take a little peek into who made the right move. That was Craig who saw a 12 point improvement as his new quarterback Jay Cutler threw 2 TDs and ran for another. Aaron’s new kicker (Eagle rookie Cody Parkey) gave him a ten point improvement and Wayne finished the week plus 8.
Most Popular/Unpopular teams
There are no NY Giants on any BUMS rosters after Marcus cut Tom Coughlin and Craig cut Victor Cruz. Washington also lost two players as Wayne cut his franchise QB Robert Griffin III and Daz cut TE Jordan Reed. Surprisingly Jacksonville and Baltimore were most in demand adding two players each. Cincinnati, Denver, Detroit and Philadelphia are now the most popular NFL teams as each have seven players on BUMS rosters.
Cuts by draft round
No matter which round you are selected in, you can still be cut. Two franchise players were cut, Wayne lost RG3 to injury while Chief cut Adrian Peterson for disciplinary reasons. Andy H was the only owner to cut his first round pick, trading Tom Brady away for Joe Flacco, while Chief cut second rounder LeSean McCoy to free up money after Peterson’s exclusion. We also lost three third rounders, three fourth rounder’s, two fifth’s and five sixth round picks.
20th Anniversary - Team Andy H & Team George
Both teams are revealed on the 20th Anniversary spreadsheet. George pointed out that one selection “was a sad entry chosen before the news”. He was referring to his former franchise kicker Rob Bironas and the news of his death two weekends ago. Despite having had Matt Ryan QB his teams for the last six years George didn’t select him. Other skill players he left out included Frank Gore, Larry Johnson, Hines Ward and Reggie Wayne from his eight years in the BUMS. Andy H left out Tom Brady, Curtis Martin, Fred Taylor, Jamal Lewis, Ricky Watters, Chad Ochocinco, Irving Fryar, Isaac Bruce, Keyshawn Johnson and Marvin Harrison.
