2013 Season - Week 7
Trading Day 1
Only 19 players were traded away on Sunday but eleven owners got serious with their injured or underperforming NFL players while none of the top 3 scoring owners made a change. Johnnie traded away Mo Jones-Drew but after the running back he was targeting was signed by Cheryl he re-signed “Pocket Hercules”, a tactic he’s used before. One trade won’t take effect until next week as John cut Seahawk Golden Tate who had already played on Thursday night so we already knew his week 7 score. A big thanks to Cheryl for the post Trading-Lasagne.
Trading Day - What’s the point of that then?
It’s always silly to judge owners trading success the day after the trade but it’s fun to take a little peek into who made the right move. That was Dave G who saw a 12 point improvement as both his new running backs Fred Jackson and Mike Tolbert scored while Shonn Greene and Mikel LeShoure did not. AP, David S, George and Johnnie were plus 6 and Cheryl and Chief plus 3. No one who made changes saw the player they cut outplayed the player they signed.
Most Popular/Unpopular teams
Every NFL team remains represented with Miami adding two more players (Caleb Sturgis and Charles Clay) to Mike Wallace as the team with the biggest upgrade. Both the Giants and the Patriots lost two each, Green Bay lost one player while Denver added one making the Broncos our favourite NFL Franchise now, putting eight players on BUMS rosters. San Diego are now the second most popular with seven players.
Cuts by draft round
No matter which round you are selected in, you can still be cut. Two franchise players were cut, AP losing Julio Jones who has gone for the season while David Stamp cut Packer and Killer K’s holdover John Kuhn. For the second year running Steven Jackson was a first rounder cut on Trading Day 1, this time by Cheryl, due to injury. H also cut his first rounder Giant RB Andre Brown. Maurice Jones-Drew was the only second rounder cut, though as mentioned he was re-signed by Johnnie. We also lost three third rounders (David Wilson, Evan Royster and Mikel LeShoure) plus five fourth rounder’s, four fifth’s and two sixth round picks.
Ron in the Hall of Fame
A big week from Ron saw him clinch his second ever visit to the scoring Hall of Fame (first time was 59 points in week 3 of 2011). This week Ron totalled 56 points courtesy of eleven points from kicker Josh Brown, 15 from Andrew Luck while Frank Gore and Calvin Johnson scored two TDs each and San Francisco won their fourth consecutive game.
