2011 Season - Week 2
High Flying BUMS
Congratulations to all 16 BUMS as combined we totalled over 500 points this week (surely 500 points should be a combined BUMS Scoring Hall of Fame performance). With an average contribution of 31.38points per owner (count them) we scored 502 points, only the sixth time we’ve put up over half a thousand. It equalled the fourth highest weekly total ever behind 521 points in week 11 of 2005, 518 2001 week 1 and 507 2003-15. The average owner score is the ninth highest ever, the best three weekly averages coming from the inaugural season when the 6 founding fathers were able to share all the best talent between the six of them. In week 12 of 1995 they averaged 39 points. The fourth best average came in wee 14 of 1998 when the then 13 owners totalled 428 points for an average of 32.56. Our huge week came courtesy of two individual Hall of Fame performances, Chief scored 51 points to return to the Hall for the seventh time (fifth best). The Scoring Hall of Famers are delighted to welcome a new member to their club as Craig scored 52 points and enters the Hall for the first time. Congratulations to the Leamington Spartans. That leaves 3 owners who have never tasted such scoring nectar, 1 year owner and former brother-in-law Steve and current owners Ron (9 years) and George (4) – your turn next week chaps?
BUMS Red Cross Hospital
Imagine paying $3m for a superstar franchise QB only for him to suffer a neck injury which may end his career. Now imagine your other franchise man, a $2m running back, suffering a hamstring injury and being inactive for week 2. No wonder Aaron is looking concerned at the breakfast table. Wayne saw his second year franchise RB Jamaal Charles put on IR this week. If Wayne cuts him on trading day one he will still have to pay Charles his $0.5m salary for the rest of this year. As reported last week David’s Wellington Windy BUMS have lost kicker Nate Kaeding for the season but unfortunately for Daz he was replaced by Nick Novak leaving Daz’s franchise kicker Jeff Reed still unemployed. While George’s franchise kicker is employed by Dallas the Cowboys have yet to let David Buehler try a kick going with Dan Bailey instead. Talk of Buehler’s Day Off. Quite a few BUMS owners will be looking forward to Trading Day 1 which is before the week 8 fixtures on Sunday Oct 30. We will trade at 3pm before the Sky doubleheader and with 40 players still yet to open their account this will be a good time to lose the deadwood. It could get very busy.
