2003 Season - Week 5
Trading Day 1
25 players lost their jobs on Sunday while 2 others swapped owners (Donte Stallworth joined Chief after Wayne cut him, and Bill ‘Chinny’ Cowher was cut by Stampy only to be snapped up by Johnny). Phil made the most changes with 4 while Cheryl felt all members of her team were playing well. Daz, who missed trading day due to a family hospitalisation, was given an extra weeks grace. Pleasingly all is now well in the Abberstein household and while Daz thanks everyone for the offer of the extra week he has decided it would be fairest to stay with the team he has got. This seems like a good call given that his team has clocked up 38 points with Amos Zereoue still to play! In unprecedented scenes 4 franchise players were cut (the injured Chad Pennington - Ron, James Thrash - Phil, the retired Qadry Ismail - Dave G and Kevan Barlow -Mark).
Trading Day 1 - What’s the point of that then?
An often asked question, and perhaps even more relevant this year, especially to Paul. His team scored 31 points but 2 of the players he cut (Troy Brown and David Boston) scored 3 TD’s combined while his replacements failed to score. Without trading Paul would be 10 points clear at the top of the table. AP is minus 1 after his cut kicker (Lindell) just outscored his new one (Seth Mahler) but all 12 other owners who traded ended up with neither an advantage nor a disadvantage! (Ron, Phil and Johnny all have new players still to play).
New America’s Team
With Chief cutting Robert Fergusson Green Bay now have only 6 players on BUMS rosters. The signing of Shannon Sharpe by Marcus and Mike Holmgren (Aaron), Matt Hasselbeck (Ron) and Mack Strong (David S) leave Denver and Seattle the most popular with 7 players each. As well as Seattle adding 3 players surprisingly so did Jacksonville while Washington added 4 more players. Arizona added one when Dave G took Anquan Boldin meaning all 32 NFL teams are now represented. Early troubles saw Philadelphia losing the most players (3).
Trading Day 2
Should you have made a complete hash of this Trading Day your other chance to make amends will be on November 16th before week 11. Again a 4pm trade deadline before a Sky doubleheader at HQ. If Sky are not showing a doubleheader that Sunday then it will be brought forward to November 9th prior to the week 10 games. Get both dates in your diaries and we will confirm them as soon as possible.
BUMS on Seats
We’re at Johnny’s from 7pm on Wednesday to see Dungybowl I as Tony Dungy brings his Indianapolis Colts into Tampa Bay to play the Bucs. Negotiations are ongoing about Maggie creating some Super BumsBurgers, so if you fancy a Wednesday evening in Harrow let him know by email that you are coming. If not then we hope to see you at HQ on Sunday from 6pm for 2 cracking matchups Kansas City @ Green Bay followed by Pittsburgh @ Denver.
