2003 Season - Week 2

New Rushing Record

A huge congratulations to Jamal Lewis who two years after a devastating knee injury put it and the entire Cleveland defense behind him as he rushed for a new NFL record 295 yards. The previous record of 278 yards was set by Corey Dillon a couple of years ago when he surpassed the record of 275 set by Walter Payton 25 years ago. New Attendance Record Stats are not officially kept but HQ was busy on Sunday as 10 BUMS (Aaron, AP, Cheryl, Chief, H, Johnny, Marcus, Mark, Paul and Ron) turned up to see at least some of the action. A great turnout and as always all are welcome. Vinny for the HOF On Sunday Vinny Testaverde threw for over 300 yards against Miami to become only the 8th Quarterback to throw for over 40,000 yards. This is an incredibly exclusive club which includes (in yardage order) Dan Marino, John Elway, Fran Tarkenton, Dan Fouts, Brett Favre, Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas. He has come a long way from throwing all those Interceptions with the Tampa Bay ‘Yucs’ back in the 1980’s but should he be considered for the Hall of Fame. Answers on an email… Chief not for the HOF The defending Champ fell one point short of his 6th Hall of Fame appearance (which would have tied Mark for the most visits) when Martin ‘used-to-be-automatica’ Gramatica had two field goals blocked and after Tampa Bay tied the game up on Brad Johnson’s TD pass as time ran out had his PAT blocked. Carolina beat the defending Superbowl Champs in OT and Chief missed out on 6 points from Jon Gruden. Trading Day 1 It is now confirmed Trading Day 1 will be held at 4pm on Sunday Oct 5th prior to week 5’s games. This will be followed at 6pm by Miami at the NY Giants, then either San Diego at Jacksonville, Detroit at San Francisco or Washington at Philadelphia. If you can’t make it and want to change a few players you can email me your cuts and wants prior to the day. BUMS on Seats It’s Andy H’s from 6pm on Wednesday to see Bill Parcells new team The Cowboys travel to New York as The Big Tuna returns to play the Giants on Monday Night Football. A full end of week 2 scoring update will be sent out on Thursday including the scores from the Sunday Night game (Chicago @ Minnesota) which will be viewed at BUMS HQ on Wednesday morning. Let me know if you are off and fancy seeing it. We are then back at BUMS HQ from 6pm on Sunday for Tampa Bay @ Atlanta followed by Cleveland at San Francisco.
