2002 Season - Week 5

Trading Day 1

So that was Trading Day 1 then. 31 players were handed their cards as most owners made a tweak or two to their team. Only Daz and Phil (unsurprisingly as he is the league’s top scorer) decided not to make any changes to their originally drafted squad. NFL teams whose stock is slipping included the NY Jets, Denver Broncos and NY Giants who all lost three players while Buffalo, Philadelphia and Chicago are on the rise with three new players in the BUMS ranks. Some owners traded better than others with three owners making trades which had huge effects on their week 5 performance (see below). The full Trading Day 1 details are attached. Obviously we’ve only had one week so it’s too early to tell who has done best but those whose new players outscore their old included Stampy (+12), Wayne (+6) and Paul (+5) while many others wait to see the impact of the Monday Nights game. Although still top of the Premiership, Chief had a nightmare week 5 with both of his cuts scoring a TD apiece, whilst neither of his new players found the end-zone. Indeed one, NY Giants Tight End Jeremy Shockey left the game with turf toe, an injury which can effect a player for considerable time. But short-term, his trading day was not as painful as three other owners… Can I Have My Trades Back Please Andy H left BUMS HQ early in the Jaguars/Eagles game expecting to return to the Hall of Fame for the first time since 1995. A strong start to the evening meant he only needed 9 points from his new kicker Eagle David Akers to hit the magic 50. Akers only scored 5 leaving H still needing 4 points from his new receiver David Terrell who plays for the Bears against Green Bay on MNF. He may still make it but on Sunday night his old kicker Matt Stover scored 14 points for Baltimore. Without trading kickers he would now be on 55points. John Botten has never traded any of his players before and he probably won’t ever again. John scored a respectable 37 points in week 5 but none of his 3 new receivers found the end-zone while his cuts made paydirt three times. Without the Trades John would have a 55 point week and his first entry into the hall of Fame. Rookie Ron continues to learn some hard lessons in the BUMS. He traded 4 players including three who had a bye week. With one other player also on a bye and his leading scorer Donte Stallworth out injured Ron ended up with no points for the week and joins the fab four of John, Paul, Gareth & Marcus in the Hall of Shame. Ron’s old Receiver, NY Jet Santana Moss scored! BUMS on Seats We are at H’s on Wednesday night for the classic Packers Bears game with kick-off at 7:30pm and then next Sunday back to BUMS HQ from 6pm for Sky’s Doubleheader.
