2002 Season - Week 1
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part 1
The NFL Season is back and it’s back with a bang. Usually it’s the defenses that gel first and it takes a few weeks before the offenses start scoring. Not this year and collectively the BUMS are poised on the edge of greatness. With 7 BUMS players including both kickers still to play in the Monday Night Game our combined weekly score stands at 478 points, second all-time to the 484 scored in week 9 last year. That must surely fall and the first ever 500 point week-end is in our grasp. After that the only other target is the highest average score which was set back in week 4 in 1997 when the 11 owners averaged exactly 32 points each. To match that score we need to total 512 points.
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part 2
The Dallas Cowboys are no longer America’s Team, they are no longer Texas’ Team. Last night the Houston Texans beat Dallas 19-10 becoming only the second expansion team to win their first ever game, joining the Vikings who beat the Bears way back in 1961.
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part 3
Yesterday saw an amazing comeback for Daz’s former Franchise Running Back Robert Edwards who after a Pro-Bowl rookie season with New England in 1998 suffered a devastating knee injury in Hawaii which nearly saw him lose his leg to amputation. Now in Miami as back-up to Ricky Williams (Daz’s current Franchise RB) Edwards, playing his first game in four seasons, scored on a 4-yard reception and 1-yard run.
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part 4
Sky have announced that they will be showing more double-headers this season than ever before and will be showing live football on Thanksgiving Day. Our next BUMS gathering is at H’s in Perivale, 6:30pm on Wednesday to watch the video of C5’s Monday Night Game and see if we can pass the 500 point mark for a week-end. Next Sunday we will be in Harrow at Johnny’s new pad to see Buffalo @ Minnesota.
Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part 5
Phil and Gareth both failed to make the Hall of Fame by one point this week which I’m sure raises a few smiles on other owners faces. They lead the two divisions but Daz has a shot at leading the BUMS after week 1 (again) and making his first entry into the Hall of Fame if Tom Brady scores 9 points against the Steelers. Full table & scores are attached.
