2000 Season - Week 20
BUMSBOWL V
It’s a Family Affair as BUMSBOWL V becomes CooperBowl. After two very low scoring Championship Games (they say Defense wins Championships). The Chief gets to play for a trophy for the first time in 5 years (he was runner-up to Johnny in the inaugural BUMS Championship) and though many may wish The Organiser well it seems the publics favourite to lift the trophy is Mrs Chief who tries to add the BUMSBOWL to the Papas Fritas Trophy she won back in 1996. Now I’m not saying The Ravens & Giants were not seen as offensive powerhouses before the season started but it is physically impossible to spend £7.5m on starters for your BUMSBOWL team of 1 QB, 1 kicker & 4 outfield players.
Trading Day
Do you get on in business if you are cut-throat ( Johnny cut 7 players over the 2 trading days) or loyal (Dave G stayed with his original line-up all year). Yet once again the numbers show how important the opportunity for substitutions can be if you get it right. Compare Andy H & Marcus’ improvement with Johnny who cut Jaguar rusher Fred Taylor. No one picked Taylor up and he scored 13 TD’s in the last 7 games. The attached spreadsheet shows how well you traded. Without Trading Day the table would’ve been:-
(actual finish) (act fin)
1 Johnny 497 3rd 8 Andy H 338 2
2 Mark 457 1st 9 AP 330 10
3 Paul 424 5th 10 John 328 11
4 Phil 418 4th 11 Marcus 314 6
=5 Cheryl 385 7th 12 Gareth 297 13
=5 Dave G 385 9th 13 Daz 251 12
7 Gully 355 8th 14 David S 225 14
BUMS on SEATS
So we are set for The Ravens and Giants in Superbowl XXXV at BUMS HQ Sunday week - January 28th. The programme starts at 10:30pm and Cheryl will be shouting ‘Hot Dogs, Hamburgers’ from the kitchen at 11pm. Let us know if you can attend so we know how many onions to chop. We’ll be playing the usual games so bring your pound coins. For those of you who cannot make it and fancy a flutter drop me an e:mail with your choices. As well as predicting your Superbowl team (rules as BUMSBOWL), the other games are :- leader by quarter eg Giants, Ravens, Draw, Ravens; Half-Time score; Full-Time score and Name the First Scorer (QB’s only if they run it in. If they throw it the win goes to whoever catches the pass). £1 per game (or £5 for 5 -bargain) and the winner of each takes all. Public Health Notice :- Remember Gambling is the work of the devil.
