2000 Season - Week 13

It’s Close Up Top

Following the recent injury problems Paul and Mark have suffered the chase for the Papas Fritas Trophy is becoming very close. After the two Thanksgiving Day games Paul had 315 points followed by Mark on 307, Andy H on 306, Cheryl on 305 and Dave G on 304. By the end of the week-end 8 owners had moved above 300 points. Paul heads up the table by 12 points but just 13 points cover the next 5 places. As it stands any of the top 9 could still win the Championship. Back In The Hall of Fame I say any of the top 9 could still win the Trophy as proved by this week by Johnny who jumped from 8th to 2nd in a single week after posting the highest score of the season. His total of 53 is one point better than Mark achieved in week 9. It’s Johnny’s 3rd visit to the Hall and he shares the record score of 60 with his brother. If only he’d kept Fred Taylor. Major League Changes For 2002 Following last years debate on reform and trying to incorporate the key points from both sides it has been decided to split the league into two Divisions from 2002. Aaron will be joining the league next year resulting in a 15 owner division. This will remain for 2001 but the top 10 will be placed in Division 1 with the bottom 5 going into Division 2. At the end of each season the bottom three in Division 1 will be relegated, being replaced by the promoted top 3 in division 2. This means only two people will ever have consecutive years without playing for the Papas Fritas Trophy - so that’ll be Stampy and the Chief then. This means that although the top 9 this week may still be playing for the Trophy Dave G, Gully and Daz would be in the drop zone from 2002 while David S would be still have a chance of making a promotion position. The idea is to maintain interest in the league for everyone until the final few weeks of the season. So next year if you aren’t in with a chance of the Championship you’ll still want to make the top 10 to qualify for Division 1. Marks New QB NY Giants Kerry Collins is the latest quarterback on the endangered list after Mark chose him to replace Jeff Blake who was lost for the season last week. Blake joined Troy Aikman who is thinking and Steve Young who did retire after injury whilst being owned by Mark. As Blake was not cut he is still eligible to be Marks Franchise player at the end of the year. BUMS on TV This Wednesday evening we are back at H’s from 7:30pm to watch two teams going nowhere this year. Green Bay (5-6) take on Carolina (4-7). On Sunday we are back at Johnny’s in Harrow from 9pm to see a key AFC East match-up which will have play-off implications as the 7-5 Indianapolis Colts take on the 8-4 NY Jets.
