2000 Season - Week 11
Trading Day 2
24 players were cut, 2 were re-signed (Peter Warrick and Travis Prentice) and 1 rejoined the BUMS after being cut at the first Trading Day (Ron Dayne). In all 7 RB’s, 5 WR’s and 5 HC’s, 4 QB’s, 2 TE’s and 1 kicker were replaced. As usual the success of an NFL team influences the trades. The troubles in Jacksonville this season saw the last 2 Jaguars given up. They are the only NFL team without a player on a BUM roster whereas last year they had 7. There was a big move to jump on the New Orleans bandwagon, sadly the engine already appears to have blown up (see below). 4 Saints were signed, more than any other team. The most represented team is St Louis with 8 players, followed by Minnesota (7) and Denver, Indianapolis and Tampa Bay with 6 each.
The Curse of Daz
Unbelievably less than one game after Daz took him in the first round of Trading Day 2 New Orleans Running Back Ricky Williams has broken his ankle and is out for 6-8 weeks. Daz signed Ricky to replace Duce Staley who was ruled out for the season a week after Daz selected him in Trading Day 1, to replace New England RB Robert Edwards who has been out injured for 2 years after hurting himself in the Pro Bowl one month after Daz signed him as his franchise player. NFL General Managers will now be quaking over who Daz will take as his next running back. If Ricky is placed on Injured Reserve Daz will be able to swap him for another player but as he may be back for the post-season as long as the Saints stay in play-off contention they are unlikely to put him on IR.
Whither the Big Two
Not Marshall Faulk and Kurt Warner who are out for another 3-4 weeks (the Rams seem to be coping without them), but Mark and Paul who have yet to find anyone to pick up their game and cover the injuries. Between them they have led the league since week 2 and after week 9 Mark led Paul by 12 with Cheryl 51 points behind in third. But Mark has scored just 12 points and Paul 19 in the last fortnight. At the same time Andy H has put up 81 and is equal top with Mark, Cheryl is 4th only 4 points back. It’s getting interesting.
BUMS on TV (including England)
This Wednesday evening we are back at H’s from 6pm to watch the top of the table AFC West match-up with Denver (5-3) hosting Oakland who have the NFL’s best record at 8-1. With the England Youth movement taking on Italy we will be sandwiching the NFL game around the soccer, starting at 6pm. If you just wan to see England, drop by at 7:45. On Sunday we are back at Johnny’s in Harrow from 9pm to see his beloved Fish take on the NY Jets which is always a shoot-out. Remember the classic Monday game last month.
