2000 Season - Week 2
The Men Who...
It was Travis fever on week 2 of the NFL season. Paul’s rookie running back Travis Prentice scored his first Touchdown in Cleveland’s victory over Cincinnati and our drafts Mr Irrelevent wide receiver Travis Taylor scored two TD’s in Baltimore’s win over Jacksonville. Mark has to be thanking his brother for going against his own wishes and choosing Travis with the last pick of the draft.
Other Rookie Performers
More good news for rookies included AP’s running back Thomas Jones scoring his first BUMS points when he threw a TD pass (thus depriving Gareth’s franchise QB Jake Plummer of the job - thanks Andy). Ron Dayne H’s NYGiant scored in week 1, Daz’s WR Plaxico Burress was out of action as Pittsburgh had their bye week. Gareth has yet to see Shaun Alexander contribute much in Seattle while John’s RB Jamal Lewis has yet to score for Baltimore. Johnny’s first round pick Bubba Franks has yet to become Favre’s go to guy in the red zone in the way Chmura was. In Cinci’s first game this week a Florida State rookie WR caught his first TD pass, sadly for Johnny it was 3rd Round NFL draft pick Ron Duggans not 1st rounder Peter Warrick.
Brotherly Love
While Mark is thanking his brother for that last draft choice Johnny must be cursing himself for the decision as Taylor’s 12 points have enabled the reigning champ to open a 3 point lead on Johnny as the Bowden brothers take first and second places in the table. Still there is a long way to go yet gentlemen.
Another One Bites The Dust
Washington WR and Gareth’s first round pick Michael Westbrook was lost for the season in the Redskins surprise loss to Detroit. Other injuries landed Marcus’s QB Steve McNair in hospital for two nights and questionable for Tennessee’s game this week and an injury to Phil’s franchise kicker which could leave him out for 3-8 weeks. Bad news for Phil but it could be good news for John Botten as his franchise kicker the former Seattle Todd Peterson has been one of the kickers trying out for the Bronco’s
